As part of my Folkestone bucket list , Anna’s was an obvious choice …a gorgeous vintage/shabby chic cafe that offers breakfast, lunch and Afternoon tea.
It was always a “must do” but it’s definitely become a “must do again” and again and most likely again.
It has the feel of stepping into a country dining room, tables are prepared with gorgeous vintage teacups , with pink and green wooden painted chairs set around in a mismatched manner.
A copy of Grandma’s recipes is left on the table for your perusal and chalkboard menus adorn the walls next to elaborate antique bronze mirrors.
It truly is a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach with even the slightest detail such as colour coordinated napkins.
But at Anna’s, even the simplest of things such as tea and toast become an indulgence.
A huge pot of tea which I had two cups out of with plenty left over and toast arranged on a vintage rose China plate adorned with an artificial rose, amazingly good homemade , I suspect, jam and real butter. All for roughly the same price as you’d get in the local greasy spoon.
But the real treasure is how comfortable you feel there, there’s a friendliness that can’t be faked and the waitress was genuinely interested in the customers, a lot of which were regulars.
In fact , I arrived just after opening at 10am and by 10.15 am the lower section was almost completely packed with happy customers.
I went on the Thursday and by the following Tuesday I was back for more having already planned what I would be having the next time, as everything looked so delicious , and I suspect it won’t be the last time either.
Anna’s is located at:
23 Cheriton Place
It is highly recommended to book for lunch and Afternoon tea.
And I highly recommend a visit.
